Enter, friend. One of the best loved books of our time is
JRR Tolkein's The Lord of the Rings. After years
of struggle by various parties, it is - at last - being made
into a series of three live action movies. All of these
movies are being made in New Zealand by Peter Jackson and will
be released at 6 month intervals starting in the year 2000.

the Production
The Money |
New Line Pictures has put
up US $100 million dollars to make the three movies. That translates
into NZ $260 million. |
The Production Company |
New Zealand-based Wingnut Productions is handling the actual
filming. This is Peter Jackson's company. |
The FX |
Weta FX, a New Zealand-based
subsidiary of Wingnut, will do all of the creature effects, digital
scenes and props. |

The Timeline |
1998 - Pre-production underway. 1999-2000 - All three movies filmed
back to back. 2000 - The Fellowship comes out at
Christmas. 2001- The Two Towers comes out in the
summer. 2001 - The Return of the King comes out
