General Information:

I am your new GM for L27; my name is Chet Strachel aka Chet S.

My Lord GM address is: Lords27gm@throneworld.com for orders and L27 stuff, and my L27 paypal address is: Chetb5@snet.net

I hope to have a turn done each month IF everything goes right…

Turn fee is still $5.00; also any nation that reaches a -$10.00 balance without making an arrangement with me will not be processed.

I have policy of no switching nations if your balance is in the red, until that negative balance is paid and you also pay for one turn ahead so your in the black.

Note: Please don’t mind the typos, I’m not a English major, so unless a English major wishes to volunteer to proofread the newsfax…

Please use this Order form if it runs on your computer: http://www.throneworld.com/lords/players/forms/lote_orders_template_1_4_2.xls

Do not put new or old projects in the builds section of the above Order form; they only go in the new or old projects section.

There is a free version of Office called OpenOffice that will open, edit and save Excel file at: http://www.openoffice.org/

Keep track of action points & total action points for your leaders, & if you build troops for leaders please state in the builds section for which leader (A#01, etc).

My rule changes starting this turn:

Lords 27 now uses Rules: 5.10.0 and this game uses HOT - Hands Off Trade

From now on, leaders by their self do not need to have ships to travel across water (unless they are exploring)…

Rule & Admin Actions: Only the King, Regent, Heir, Primate, Archbishop, Grandmaster, or Master may conduct a Rule action. Only an Heir, Prince, Master, Archbishop, Bishop or Lieutenant may conduct an Admin action.

Only Kings & Queens, and Heirs can have children (HC). Having Children: A leader (Kings & Queens, and Heirs) conducting either Rule, Defend (not React), or Admin in the Capital or Homeland region may also perform Have Children actions at the same time. I’m assuming he’s not working 24 hours a day on Administrating! Also, please let me know for how many actions your King, Queen, Heir, etc, is having. Unless, it’s not specified, I’ll assume the HC action is being done for the entire turn. Finally, if the individual doing the HC is female, there is a chance that they may die in childbirth...

Leader assistance: If a leader is assisting another, please make a note of this in the assisted leader's orders.

Unnamed leaders: suffer a –1 to their action points per year and Kings without names will be named by me if you don’t, also unnamed cities do not get built, also leaders need to keep track of their AP expenditure in their orders or run an excellent chance that they will do nothing the entire turn, and need to have the leader number along with the name, i.e. L01 for King, L02 for Heir, etc (same as the stat sheet)...

Allied Leaders: the following are the rules concerning allied leaders. Any troops attached to an allied leader may not be detached for any purpose. They stay with the allied leader at all times. Allied leader units may not be demobilized, although they will go away if the player decides to reduce the control level of the allied region or if the allied leader dies and is not replaced. Players may build or assign additional units to the allied army but such units become part of the allied army and may not be taken back.

HORDE RULING: Hordes are to be played by a single player (or maybe played by an Americans player if no other can be found).

Certain builds take an entire turn to perform (although for clerical reasons are usually done at the same time as the rest of the builds). These are: City Construction (both new and additional levels), all Megalithic Construction Projects, and Colonies. (What this means is that you may not take advantage of a given build of this type on the turn that it is constructed. For example: you may not base MSPs or build PWBs at the increased city capacities until the turn after the construction is done. Similarly, PWBs may not be built in excess of a region’s old terrain type the turn it becomes cultivated or colonized to a higher GPv. Please plan accordingly.)

Demobilizing Units: you cannot demobilize units and rebuild them elsewhere on the same turn. This is not allowed as per rule 5.4.6 indicates. However, unlike the rules, I will allow demobilized units to be rebuilt elsewhere on the turn following their demobilization or later. The NFP simply go into your saved NFP slot.

Regional Cultivation is now a base level one project, but I will be using the megalithic construct cost multiples on table 6-2.

Empty ( / ) regions need at least one troop to garrison them if you want to claim them and you can’t DP them as there is nobody home.

Colonization: Any region that is cultivated or has been cultivated and is less than 2 GPV can be increased in value up to 2 GPV for the cost of 15 GP and 15 NFP per GPV of increase. Any named island can be colonized to 1 GPV.

Homeland colonization: any tech 6 nation can colonize their homeland to level 3 GPV, assuming its cultivated (and already 2 GPV) for a cost of 20 NFP and 20 GP. Any tech 9 nation can colonize their homeland to level 4 GPV, assuming it’s cultivated (and already 3 GPV) for a cost of 25 NFP and 25 GP.

Exploration: With the following exceptions, all nations have knowledge of sea zones only within trade range of them, unless they have the rudders listed on their stat sheet, and all European nations have knowledge of all sea zones that border Europe (Mediterranean and Atlantic).

Rudders cannot be sold or shared the same turn that they are explored and discovered; word of and maps of the rudders need to make it back home.

Takeda Shogunate

Shogun Nareshi
Diplomacy: Nigata [N/E]

The Shogun Nareshi kept the empire’s military might ready to respond to any revolts or invasion. Sadly when Admiral Akira arrived back in Kumamoto port with his fleet, he slipped on the docks on some fish guts and fell into the bay and drowned. More trouble followed Lord Joshiro as he paid a diplomatic visit to the Nigata feudal ally, for at a dinner party welcoming him, he coked on a fishbone and died. In the midst of his leaders passing, the Shogun promoted Prince Okajuurou, as well he had three cites expanded with addition public works to handle the increase in size, and fulfilled his goal of making major improvements to the empires schools and universities. Incidentally for some reason the Shogun decided to remarry at the grand old age of 68 to a noble lady of half his age and he was truly blessed with a daughter and son…

Afterward Lord Li Dao took the newly train forces to Shantung and merged them with the Emperor’s. Back in the homeland tragedy struck the empire when the Heir died with a broken neck after he was thrown from his horse while out for a ride. The Khanate of Hsiung'Nu

Asiatic Pagan | Nomadic | Tech 4
Liao Chien, Khan of the Hsing'Nu, Imperial Governor of Liao Province.
Diplomacy: City of Baotuo [T], Shangtung [UN]

Khan Liao Chien govern a lot wiser than his generals made their battle plans. The Khan had hired some mercs and added them to General-Prince Liao Xi-Ju’s army for a grand total of 22,000 troops, and the Khan command him and another general along with two ally armies to capture the region of Tsainan with a combined army of 26,000. [See The Battles for Tsainan (681-685)] Elsewhere Leader Zhon Li had fruitful diplomatic dialogue with the city of Baotuo.

The Battles for Tsainan (681-685):

(Or the story of how a single region had four different owners in five years)

In 681 the Hsiung’Nu army led by General-Prince Liao Xi-Ju advanced from Shangtung into Tsainan. Scouts were send throughout the region seeking the Honan army but found only a few field forts, while the Hsiung’Nu generals were going over the reports, one of the last scouts to return reported that the that the Horan army of about 8,000 troops led by their Emperor and another leader had crossed the bridge over Grand Canal traveling by the royal road from the region of Horan. The General-Prince sent half of his force (11,000 troops) to circle around the Horan army while he advanced with the rest to meet the Horan army at the field forts. The battle for Tsainan raged for half of the day and was evenly match until the 11,000 half of the Hsiung’Nu troops attacked the Horan army from behind and turn the tide of battle, the Horan army was easily broken and scatted across the region, but the Horan Emperor slipped back into the region of Horan with but a few of his troops. The General Prince’s army lost around 1,000 troops and it spent the rest of 681 mopping up the remains of their foe. In 682 General-Prince made plans to siege the city of Merrischan within the region of Tsainan, although scouts had report it strangely quiet, the General-Prince suspected a trap, he had his forces surround the city and then attack because the were hardly any walls left to defend with. The city was found to be a ghost town, for it had been sacked and never rebuilt. It was near dusk when silent figures assaulted the rear guard of General-Prince’s (Hsiung’Nu) army and effortlessly obliterated it. Fighting raged right through the night before the General-Prince could withdraw his army from the ruined city and get a good look at his foes. They were roughly 10,000 Heavy-Elite troops and monks from the Shaolin Order, while the General-Prince’s army outnumbered them 2 to 1, only half his troops were heavy units and none were Elite. Looking at the Hsiung’Nu’s army, General-Prince could see that his troops were in a disorganize jumble caused by the surprised attack by the Shaolin Order and he had no choice but to fall back into Shangtung to regroup. The Shaolin Order led by Master Qin Zhan had only lost about 2,000 troops, but they had killed over 6,000 of the Hsiung’Nu and they were able to surprise the Hsiung’Nu again by pursuing them into Shangtung. As this was going on in Tsainan, in another region next door in Kiangsu the Kannagara No Michi land an army of 16,000 mixed troops and spent 682 dealing with the 20 Horan field forts there. In 683 small battles happen all over across Shangtung between the Shaolin and Hsiung’Nu, but ended in a stalemate as the smaller Shaolin Order force avoided all attempts by the large Hsiung’Nu to use their size advantage, 684 was more of the same… While back in Kiangsu, during 683 and 684 the Kannagara No Michi did a military conversion of the region to Shinto. In 685 the General-Prince was worried about his mercs leaving at the end of their term and decide to withdraw his troops to the friendly region of Yen and was filled with relief that this time the Shaolin order didn’t follow him, he also left behind another 2,000 dead compare to the Shaolin Order’s war dead of 1,000... Whilst the Kannagara No Michi garrisoned Kiangsu with some of their troops and then marched into the largely undefended region of Tsainan and claim it for their own.

Kingdom of Pegu

King Gnialat died in 681 in battle, his heir Gnialat was never crown and Pegu merged with Sirivijayan Empire in 683.
Diplomacy: Merged with Sirivijayan Empire

King Gnialat was in command of all the kingdom’s forces of in the region of Pegu, they very well prepared and they had a direct defense towards Ava, along with some hired mercs to help, for a total army of about 20,000. They further prepared by building some more field forts and higher walls for the fortress in Pegu… Elsewhere a couple of cites was ordered increased in size.

The Mongoose that Roared War (681-682):

A single Gupta General named Vishalatti was given command of a huge mixed army of about 65,000 troops (a little too many for him to handle alone it seems). General Vishalatti was ordered to take over all the Peguian regions and cities all the way down to Mon. He wasn’t expecting any heavy resistance and told his troops it would be a cakewalk. His Army poured across the Ava border into Pegu in the summer of 681 into a solid wall of defense and like waves against a seawall was thrown back again and again. By year’s end he had to withdraw back into Ava to regroup, leaving behind roughly 23,000 dead, worse yet the Peguians suffered light losses of only around 4,000 troops. In 682 the dishearten Gupta General Vishalatti knew he couldn’t report his lost to his Emperor without losing his head, luckily for him at about that time some reports were brought in regarding the death of the Pegu King, he had died over the winter of infection from his battle wounds. General Vishalatti with enthusiasm ordered his troops into Arakan and then through the Arakan Mountain passes into Pegu in order to avoid the defense wall and again his army met a strong defense, but one it could overcome. Unfortunately for General Vishalatti the Hindu gods were not watching over him and a stray arrow took him in the heart, his leaderless army then fell apart and only about half of it made it back to Ava, and to add insult to injury, word reach Gupta the Pegu had merged with the Sirivijayan Empire a year after the battle in order to avoid any reprisals.

Emperor Moltke did the usual ruling and populating of the royal family (one child before the wife died along with the second). He ordered Frunze colonized and his Warlord Batu to gather 20,000 troops of cavalry and go and offer Kashmir one chance to renounce its alliance with the Parthian traitors and once again pledge fealty to the Khan or die…

The War for Kashmir (681):

Warlord Batu marched from Uzebek and crossed the Uzebek Mountains into Kashmir and made his announcement to the local rulers, at about that time the Parthian army commanded by a brilliant general named Molok showed up with 10,000 of mixed troops. General Molok could easily see he was outnumbered two to one, but likewise he knew that mountains ring Kashmir and retreat against his enemy’s all cavalry force was not an option. He led his force bravely into battle and although he out commanded Warlord Batu it sadly turned out that Batu’s troops were mostly heavy or elite troops, while his were mostly light, outnumbered and slaughtered to only one man, the only Parthian to make out alive over the Badakshan Mountains into Badakshan was General Molok. The city of Parapavara was next laid siege to by Warlord Batu’s army and it fell before the end of the year. A spy was captured in the city, who had reportedly tried to get the region to join the Dar Al’Harb and him along with a Parthian leader was executed.

Zoroastrian | Civilized | Tech 4
Patriarch Tethys died in 685; Archbishop Docan became Patriarch in 685.
Diplomacy: Babylonia [AB], City of Nippur [CH], Paphlagonia [MN], Al-Aqabah [CH]

Patriarch Tethys was preaching in Jabal Shammar, and it was a barren godforsaken place hardy worth a Patriarch’s visit, when he died from a sand storm that loaded the roof of the inn he was staying in and caused it to collapse, a roof beam split and fell piercing the Patriarch’s heart as he laid in his bed. The church had more bad news a couple years before when the Archbishop Angcur and his 25,000 heavy elite cavalry in Mecca attempted to seize the Parsee site there, things were going well until the Archbishop decided to check on the progress by touring the city, and the Archbishop was passing though an arch when a rock was thrown or fell from it, the rock hit him squarely in the head and died with his skull split open. With no other leader to take command, his leaderless army fell apart and only about a quarter of it made it back across the desert to Kuwait, adding injury to insult, rumor has it that a quarter of it fell under Parsee control… There was some good news as Bishop Docan founded an abbey in Babylonia and church in the city of Nippur along with the successful seizure of a Parsee site in Al-Aqabah which earned him the title of Patriarch when the old one was killed in an horrible accident in 685.

Diplomacy: Asia [P], Smyma [P], Epirus [PT], Athenos [PT], Attica [PT]

Xerxes, ShahanShah Eran Ud Aneran ran his Empire with an iron fist and decreed that every able-bodied male to be pressed in service in the army or navy and a couple hundred new ships were built and a little over 30,000 troops trained and loans taken out to pay for everything. The ShahanShah then proclaimed to his empire that it was time for the war to commence again against the Romano dogs…

Romano-Zoroastrian War (2nd) (681-):

The war was masterful strategy of a three prong attack like a trident against the ERE… In 681: Commencing from Isauria near the end of 681,Valahazrat Frothgar who with another leader advanced into the region of Asia with a mixed army of almost 70,000 troops and finds it very lightly defend by a single fort and easily takes it over, it was too easy Frothgar thought, then again there still was a city and fortress to deal with… Around the same time the next prong sprung from the sea as a Persian fleet of close to 800 ships led by a couple of Persian leaders and filled with marines arrived to blockade the city of Smyrna in Asia. In 682 the third prong struck the Romanos in Epirus with another mixed army of about 22,000 troops command by Valahazrat Hormizd who with another leader invaded and again easily destroying a single fort and took over that region. At the same time as Valahazrat Frothgar’s Army looted Asia, and assaulted and destroyed the fortress there with minimum loses, that action carried over into the next year. In 683 Valahazrat Frothgar’s Army garrisoned Asia and began a siege of the city Smyrna, while Valahazrat Hormizd’s army advanced into Attica into a line of defense led by ERE leaders Tratoric and Nicodromus, they were with around 7,000 mixed troops and a single field fort, the Romanos were prepared, dug in and waiting for them, but they did not expect such a large force. The ERE force withstood numerous attacks but finally fell to the overwhelming Zoroastrian force, Tratoric and Nicodromus did managed to escape cross the mountains into Thessaly with less than a thousand ERE troops, while the leader with Hormizd died with about 4,000 of his Persian troops…In 684 Valahazrat Frothgar’s Army conquered Smyrna, looted its religious sites, and garrisoned it. During that same time Valahazrat Hormizd’s army destroyed a small fortress in Attica, and loot the region’s religious sites and began a siege of Athenos. In 685 Valahazrat Frothgar’s Army press forward into Hellespont to show a combine army of Farohars and Dahaks how to overwhelmed about a dozen field forts and then begin a siege of its large fortress. (See Farohars & Dahak sections for their part in the war…) Around about that time the Persian fleet (with 800 ships) appeared at Athenos and began blockading it, and Athenos soon fell to Valahazrat Hormizd’s siege. Afterward the Persian fleet sailed off for ports unknown.

(See Empire of Dahak section.) Whereas the Farohars’ navy commanded by Admiral Athwya, and with Vice Admiral Chamru was filled with much enthusiasm, for they at the same time hooked up with Persian fleet in Tyre to follow and assist it. Marred by mismanagement and ill prepared for the journey it took most of 681 to get there. Together with the Farohars they then crossed the Phrygia Mountains into Phrygia and the Emperor’s bumbling continued with the trip taking most of 682, the Farohars arrive ahead of the Dahaks, and easily destroyed the region’s lone fort. The Phrygia fortress posed a problem for the Zoroastrian forces and they tried to siege it 683 with no success due of course to the Emperor’s foolish strategies that had the Farohars’ leaders pulling out their beards in frustration by 683’s end. In 684 they ended the siege and crossed the mountains into Hellespont, and the Emperor showed more of his lack of brilliance by personal leading a disastrous attack on a mere dozen field forts there that cost Prince Abbas his life and wounded the Emperor. In 685 the Persians showed up and showed how easy it really was to defeat a few field forts and the embarrassed and still feeling the effects of his wound Emperor Durwart ordered his army back home to Paphlagonia. The Farohars needless to say celebrated the Dahaks leaving and with much relief joined with the Persians, but they were then surprised to find after the celebration that their leader Invehl was missing and they presumed kidnapped by the Romanos.

His Archbishop Operus was poking around in Sardinia when he was accidentally run over by a horse and cart that was on its way to market (in 682). Bishop Hakim was doing his own poking around in Tunisia, but he came up empty handed. Archbishop Ralston got to poke around in Casablanca when he dug up a old cup that he declared to be the Holy Grail, and it seem like most of his church believed him as he was made the next Patriarch in 685 just after the old one passed on. The church builds for the past 5 years included a few public works in Alger and Merrakesh, a couple of heavy warships in Carthage, and a cultivation project was started in Sardinia. Of course the church’s influence in the area increased upon news of the Grail’s discovery.

Emperor Karopophores died in 684, Emperor Ortaheus crowned in 684
Diplomacy: Asia [OC], Smyma [OC], Epirus [OC], Athenos [OC], Attica [OC]

Emperor Karopophores greatly feared an attack and he was right to be alarmed about one since an attack did happen, he did all he could to prepare by building more field forts in Constantinople, and sending gold to aid the Order of St. Georgios. The Emperor had his navy and armies ready to defend Constantinople from attack and had the ferry point between Thrace and Hellespontus destroyed. But luckily (or unluckily depending on your viewpoint) for the ERE the Axe fell elsewhere, because although the St Georgios Grandmaster show up to command the ERE navy, the St Georgios Brother Demetrius failed to show up to command the ERE army. The Emperor as well gave orders to his leaders: Tratoric and Nicodromus, who with their 7,000 troops were to respond to any secondary attacks. So Tratoric and Nicodromus after hearing reports of an invasion in the west they rushed to make a stand to defend Attica, but alas the invasion force was much larger than reported and most of their troops were wiped out. Although they did manage to both end up in one piece in Thessaly. Elsewhere an intruder was found and killed in the government offices with a knife and clothing of Ulania origin. Later the next year some terrorists attacked the government offices and damaged the bureaucracy levels of the north wing; and soon afterward Leader Phistronomus deserted his post after hearing rumors that he would be stuck with the blame for the relaxed security. After all of this Emperor Karopophores made plans to call a holy war to gain the ERE some help, but he passed away in 684 (after a long illness lasting more than a year) before he was able to do so. Emperor Ortaheus was crowned in 684 with no further problems, but he also made no move to respond to reports of an invasion to the south…
