Takeda Shogunate – Shinto – Seafaring – Tech 4,

Shogun Akira

Diplomacy: none

Akira stayed home to rule his empire and tend to his family.  He and his wife gave birth to another baby, this time a boy named Edoga.  Akira’s son, and his Heir, Kenji, also stayed home, just in case, but died a few years later shortly after the 6 year anniversary of his wife’s death.  Akira also watched over the expansion of Edo and ordered several improvements in the new area of Edo as well as investment into the countrysides of Yamato and Shikoku.

The Shogunate took control of Luzon from the Sirivijayans, which eventually revolted, and then sent a diplomatic envoy to Bashi, which fully embraced the Shogunate, and many in the city even embraced the Shinto religion.  However, two of the leaders in that envoy, decided that they were no longer going to follow the orders of the Shogunate, and decided to pursue other interests.

Tetsuya, Furanku and Hiro were sent to explore the seas, and discovered several new rudders before returning home.  Upon his return, Tetsuya was named Heir.

Kannagara No Michi – Shinto – Seafaring – Tech 4,

Tai Sho Hiro

Diplomacy: Akita (oh), Karuizawa(oh), Koryu(oh)

As a token of the Samurai’s gratitude at being given a chance to serve the Emperor, they expanded the port cities of Awaji, Kanazawa, and Satsuma.  In the case of Satsuma, the Port Fortress adjacent to the city was enclosed in the expanded city with several new public works there to help make the populace prosperous and happy.

Tai Sho Hiro will spend his time going to Koryu to put an Order House there.  He died during construction, but left good enough instructions that the job was completed.  Chosaan, became the next leader of the Samurai while constructing an Order House in Akita.  Morihei Ueshiba went to Karuizawa to found another Order House in that location.  Mako was sent to Bashi to convert the cities people to the Shinto religion, and he met with no resistance this time.

The Lu Kingdom of Korea – Buddhist – Civilized – Tech 4,

King Lu Shan

Diplomacy: Silla(f)

Economic Development was the word of the day, with Kaiching getting upgrades to their sewage systems, as well as several new fleets for internal trade.  The city of Pusan was also founded in Silla, which helped convince the locals there to fully join the Lu Kingdom of Korea under the diplomatic skills of Lu Shan and Sun Trin.  Lu Tri stayed in the Palace to Rule and spend time with his wife, which resulted in two sons being born one year apart.

The Mongol Khanate – Asiatic Pagan – Nomadic – Tech 1

Khan Margun

Diplomacy: Hupei(p)

Khan Margun, in command of a vast horde decided that he’d have enough of India, and wanted to return back East.  But instead of going back home to the Mongol steppes, he decided to invade China, and live the life of an Emperor.  However, before he could lead a more civilized life, he would have to contend with those pesky Chinese warriors who would rather not be ruled by the Mongols.

The Khan’s army crossed into the lands of the Hu Empire via Gouangxi and began raiding Lingtung, Nanling and Kienchou in hopes of drawing the Hu army to them.  But Emperor Hu would not bite, and was setting up his defenses in Hupei with numerous Field Forts and conscripting well-armored cavalry.  Khan Margun had no choice but to charge the field in Hupei if he was to declare himself the new Emperor of China.

The Horde had entered the province of Hupei in April of 633, and the Hu army was well entrenched.  Khan Margun and his allied generals had over 140,000 horsemen, about half of which were lightly armored archers.  He faced a Hu army of about 20,000 mostly heavy horse intermingled among 80 field forts.  Emperor Hu knew that he could not hold the province against such odds, but hoped that he could at least slow the horde down, and do enough damage to them, so he could withdraw to his city fortress and set up his defenses there.  The battles lasted only several weeks, during which time the Mongols attacked continuously (albeit haphazardly), but the Hu were successful in their aim.  Although the Hu lost more than half of their horse and forts, they managed to withdraw into the city fortress while eliminating almost 15% of the horde.  Khan Margun was enraged, although he won the battle, he was disgusted at all the casualties his army suffered, which would have been avoided had they been more disciplined and followed his orders more specifically.

The Khan’s next move, after destroying the remaining field fortifications, which can only be described as suicidal, was to assault the city fortress of Chang’ling.  Emperor Hu was prepared for the assault, as Kang Miao and Chou Wu, who had time to return to the city after patrolling the Yangtze river, brought with them over 2000 heavy infantrymen and 2400 seige engineers.  The Mongol charge could be aptly described as a ripe tomato being throne at a stone wall.  It didn’t make a dent, but what a mess.  In the end, the horde lost another third of their army, while the city defenders lost only about two thousand men.

Empire of the Black Dragon – Buddhist – Civilized – Tech 4

Emperor Lui

Diplomacy: Shan’Si [Tai’Yuan(t)]

Emperor Lui was on the defensive.  After the long war with the Hu and the new raids from an Islamic horde, it was time to re-evalute the empire’s situation.  Fortunately, the horde ignored the Black Dragon Empire, and a temporary peace was reached with the Hu.  Many cavalry were conscripted, and walls were put up around Zhu Zhou, while Emperor Lui found himself a beautiful bride in Shensi, with whom he had a son and a daughter.  The Bhuddist Priest that was working with the Black Dragon went home after helping Huang secure tribute from the city of Tai’Yuan.

Diplomacy: Uigur(n/e)

Now that the Islamic horde has found a home, they decided to go for one last tour of the steppe in hopes of getting more followers.  In the region of Kutai a small band of warriors fully joined the horde, and then in Uigur, although to far for the new nation to control, the horde of the region declared an alliance with Isam, and joined them on their journeys.  During those journeys, Black Dragon spies were keeping an eye on their movements, and even tried to assassinate Isam.  However, Isam’s elite guards foiled that attempt.

Amwea was sent to Molaccus to convert the rest of the populace to Hinduism, and about half the remaining Pagans were converted.  Kalatu on the other hand was sent to explore the North Equatorial Current, however, he and his ships have yet to return after many years at sea.  It is rumored that the Captain, who was never in the best of health, died on the voyage and the crew either got lost or rebelled.

Diplomacy: Preikuk(-ea)

King Tri Utvaditya stayed home to rule and defend his empire.  He also ordered some fortifications in Annam and Champa, as well as public improvements in Phan Rang and Annam.  His Heir, Ru Sisiwath, stayed in Khmer to defend the nation from any Western invasion, but sadly died in his tent one evening dreaming of his wife.

To Ser and Krang Eo were sent on religious missions, and met with minor successes, converting several individuals in Leyte and Sagaing the virtues of Hinduism.  The people of Mindanao, however, did not care for such teachings.

The Preikuk Ally died as well this cycle, and the region became just an economic ally instead of the military alliance that was established earlier by diplomats.

Gupta Empire – Hinduism – Civilized – Tech 4

Emperor Khali

Diplomacy: Chitor(nt) [Thratthati(n/e)], Gtsang(c), Gujerat(n/e), Kutch(c) [Melindara(c)]

Emperor Hesharu, went back home to his palace in Maghada where we would rule and eagerly await his beautiful bride from Chitor.  It has been a long time since Hesharu entertained a woman in his bedchamber, and he and his new wife spent much time behind closed doors, producing a son and two daughters.  It is said that Hesharu barely took notice of the 10,000 infantry and 10,000 Heavy Cavalry that were conscripted into his army, or of several trade routes that were re-established these past few years.

After the failure of Lord Narumi to conduct a census for the Gupta Empire, Lord Eshasulu took up the task.  He wondered “there are many citizens indeed, but how could Lord Narumi not know how to count?”  Eshasulu return to Maghada to report his success to the Emperor, but alas, there was a Do Not Disturn sign on that door

Hesharu hoped that Lord Narumi, although incompetent at couting heads, was a much better diplomat.  But just in case, Priest Khuderbha was sent along with him to help on several diplomatic missions, none of which were terribly successful, not even in Chitor where a royal marriage was arranged.

Emperor Heraklios has inherited an empire in trouble. Bankrupt, demoralized, he turns all his energies to getting the land back on its feet. Gathering all troops and ships to his own command, he proceeds to tighten the belts of the accountants and urge the citizenry to work together to come through this time of trials while the Empire recovers from the disastrous war with Persia.  He pays off half the defaulted loan, rules, and attempts to renegotiate with the banks to get the tax rate increased. Further, seeing as how the Empire cannot stand unless it is united and wealthier, he sends forth his princes and lieutenants to bring the allies of the region closer with moderate success.  He also gives land grants to a variety of soldiers and farmers to found cities in Phyrgia, and the Crimea as well as to expand the city of Thessaloniki.
