New for T59
Paths to victory: There are several options open to a player when an NPN has been defeated
- Take the victory conditions (see NPN rules) available for NPNs and allow the NPN to go its own way. This is a useful option if you do not want to increase your imperial size or bother with the NPNs internal affairs.
- Keep it as either Pacified or Pacified Tributary. You will not get victory conditions but will get income from the NPNs Homeland/Friendly regions and cities. Also, as the years from conquest marker goes up it may turn Friendly or Tributary. Using this option treats the NPN as a super-region.
- Old school, you will have to take the regions you want and conquer each in turn. If the capital is taken then some of the NPNs ratings will be added to yours if higher. The NPN will cease to exist.
Dealing with hordes: Hordes can be dealt with a number of ways rather than just an outright battle. These are
- Threaten them. Hordes respond to a show of strength and may leave you alone if confronted with enough force.
- Bribe them. They are looking for gold and lands to settle or pillage so if you offer them it on a plate they may well go away. They may also just take it and attack anyway.
- Use diplomacy. It does work and I suggest chucking in a royal princess or two.
You can also use a combination of the above. If the horde becomes
a FA or A, you can direct its attacks or its path of migration.

rules to fit better with the Lord’s system. Please check them out.

Restrictions on Royal Marriages: Due to the complications
arising from these rules only K, H or P leaders can benefit from a Royal
Marriage. Members of the Royal Family that have not come into play are not
considered eligible. Also, Primate, Order and Secret Empire positions are not
eligible for marriage bonuses. These are meant to be diplomatic arrangements
between sovereign states.

East – West Split: I’m going to try to
split the East and the West parts of the game so that I can process the orders
quicker – don’t know if or how it will work yet but lets
see if it’ll happen

No Orders: If I don’t get any orders in for a
position and the player doesn’t answer my emails then I’ll put the position
back to a NPN and put aside the players cash (if any) until they pick it or
another nation up again.
New for T50
Request Royal Marriage: Used to ask a NPN
nation for a bride for one of your Princes or a suitor for one of your little
Princesses. Cost is 6AP, Charisma based. The leader doesn’t have to be in the
NPNs capital but if he isn’t then he needs to be in your homeland/capital.
New for T49
Naval Reaction and Blockade: Naval Reactions can
only occur when there is action in a Sea Zone that the fleet is based at. The
fleet has to be based from a port and not the Sea Zone. Also, the Reaction can
only occur when your own lands or those of an ally benefiting from a Defensive
Pact marriage bonus are attacked. It also applies to any merchant fleets you
operate through the Sea Zone in the case of piracy. Naval Blockade’s only work if your fleet is
based in the same Sea Zone as the target port and you spend all (every single
one) of your APs in the blockade. The fleet must be based from a port and not a
Sea Zone.

The use of fleets for Reaction and mitigating
the effects of Pirates: My understanding has now changed since we GMs have had some
discussion on the list. The use of Reaction has been explained on the Wiki and
Patrol is no longer used in the Base Rules.

Trade Route Escorts
- This is specific to Lords 24. Units can be assigned to a trade route to act as static convoy escort using the G type leader. Note this is not as good as patrol as the warships assigned will only reduce the effects of piracy, not capture or destroy the pirates themselves.

New for T47
Improved cultivation at TL5: If a nation has reached the dizzy heights of TL5 than it can benefit from improved cultivation. You can Improve a cultivated homeland region from 2GPv to 3GPv, or any other controlled cultivated region from 1GPv to 2GPv. This is a level one megalithic construction.
New for T46
NPNS: I’ve tweaked the NPN and Primacy/Order rules a
little to make them fit better with the 24 game. I’ve also reduced their overall
RRV to make diplomacy easier.
New for T45
New Rivers: I’ve added in some new possible rivers
onto the map. These are rivers that were once passable by light traffic
(remember Cogs cannot travel on rivers) and have now become silted up. You can
dredge a stretch of the river (along one region border edge) as a 0.5 level
project.
Gripes:
Agro as
conversion – this has restrictions (see 2.11.5.3) which I will be enforcing
from now on.
Rivers can
only support light ships – as far as I know Cogs cannot travel on rivers. This
also includes Cogs built for trade.
New Primates: We have two new Primate positions this
turn. Jumal Skyfather,
which is an Estonian god and the Coptic Church based out of Axum.
New for T44
Minor islands and City States: I’ll be allowing minor
islands (Corfu, Jerba, Wight etc)
and city states to be used as locations from T44. Just let me know the
rationale behind why you want it separate and if reasonable I’ll add it in.
Once they are created as locations, they obey all the rules of islands etc.
However, their Gpv cannot go above 0.
Flooding: The last few turns have seen a massive
increase in the amount of flooding that has occurred. It appears that the years
are getting warmer and wetter. As a result of this some of the minor rivers on
the map are once again becoming passable to river traffic.
Denmark: Following on from the Minor Islands stuff, you
can see that Denmark is now separated out to Jutland and Syaland
(Zeeland).

the turn more quickly. THIS IS NOW MANDATORY.
Non-Payment: some of you still owe
me some cash. Although it may come as surprise that this is not my main source
of income, I see it only polite that you pay for the occasionally night out.
So, if you’re under zero next turn I’ll not process you orders.
Version 6: Lords 24 uses version 6 of the basic rules
The Map: The map now includes
India as well as Europe, Central Asia and Africa. I’ve greyed out repeated
areas on the maps to make my life easier. However, this means some player
nations are split across more than one map. I may increase the size of the main
map but I’ll have to think on this.
Tithes and Tribute: I think these are
automatically updated by the stats program, so no need to declare them in your
orders.
Control
of the Papacy and Religious Orders: In Lords 24 we will not always have
a player Pope (or Caliph etc for that matter) and the
following rules are used to determine which player faction controls the Pope’s
actions, Papacy Rules.

Tiroman ordered the walls of his mighty fortresses and cities be built to withstand any attack. His imams were active again in Liguria and Genoa where they continued to make progress converting the Christians there to Islam. Although unsuccessful in bringing closer ties with Salamanca and Zirid, Tiroman was pleased that at least the dependable Tarkhan was able to gain an alliance from the Talaverans. Zacharias was able to push Akramid knowledge of the seas further north as he explored the seas around the Faeroes. . |

Naj Muhammad was determined to have revenge on his father’s death at the hands of the Persian rebels. He raised another vast army from the Mesopotamian heartlands and gave command to General Al-Aja before settling into his rule with his Hahmarian wife at his side. His dynasty was assured with the birth of a young daughter, shortly followed by a son a year later. Efforts to steal technology from the West came to nothing as the Christians began to root out the Buwayid agents in their lands. The Sultan was disconcerted to learn the Al-Hasheshin could be contacted in his lands but his agents could not locate their exact whereabouts. With the newly formed Buwayid force of thirty thousand foot and twelve thousand horse, General Muhammad Al-Aja skirted the mountains bordering Media and moved into Kurdistan. No resistance was given as the Kurds pulled back to their mountain valleys, watching the Buwayid force only. Al-Aja then moved his army to attack the Persian’s northern border with Kurdistan. Although well defended with field forts, the Persian army in Media was pitifully small compared to the Sultanate’s. a mere four thousand cavalry and some sappers. Even so, Al-Aja took several months to force the defenders back to Persia before he could cement his control over the province. After being thrown back from the walls of Hamadan, General Al-Aja decided to move his forces against the rebel heartland of Persia but despite destroying the majority of the Persian defences, his losses were so great that he decided to establish his base in Media. Shortly after the Buwayid forces had moved back to Media, envoys from the Persians arrived offering their surrender to Al-Aja’s forces. This was a contingency that needed the Sultan’s approval and fast messengers rode to Baghdad with the news. Throughout the remaining months of 1386, stragglers from the old Sultan’s army began to arrive at Al-Aja’s camp, swelling his numbers by a further eight thousand men. From his garrison post in Isauria, news of old Asafar’s death reached the Sultan in 1385. |

King Louis II ruled from Paris and was to take a bride from the House of Valois. Further ties were established with Burgundy though the efforts of Remy and the marriage of Princess Anne to their ruling dynasty. With the command of the army handed to Prince Charles, Martin journeyed north to Paris to assist his king in the affairs of state. |

King Einhenjar ensured that the Order of Le Marteau shouldered the majority of the blame for the debacle in Revel. Another hundred warships were commissioned for the royal fleet to confirm the security of the Orkney’s and their dependencies. After taking command of the newly commissioned ships and the existing ships docked in Kirkval, Einhenjar ruled from the city with his wife Queen Roselind. A young daughter was born to the royal couple during these years. A quieter approach was now favoured by Einhenjar with the Jumalis and missionaries were sent from Oslo to convince the heathens of Ventapils and Musa to turn then back to the true faith. After spending most of her time at the Svear court in Stockholm, the Princess Sanfrida attempted to gain an audience with King Bradick III of the Ests. However, despite her renowned beauty, the Princess was not allowed to dock in Reval and had to return to Stockholm. After leaving the newly raised mercenary cavalry in Hordavil with Brodgar, Birgitta travelled to Amsterdam where some grudging acceptance of the Orkney’s claim was gained. Old Ranulf was to travel to Connaught but died of a fever in early 1383. With the cavalry gained from Birgitta, Brodgar augmented his force with the mercenaries garrisoned in Hordavil before crossing the mountains to Uppsala. |

King Aethelhard’s rule saw a marked increase in the prosperity of the English lands as well as the repair of forts stood empty since the plague. He was blessed with a young daughter by his wife Catalina of Navarre. Old Lord Leofstan was to perish in 1383 from a fever and Morlais of Gwynnedin the same year. Lord Eadwald could do little to improve relations with the Navaresse, despite spending several years in the province. |
The Kingdom of Svear
Wulf Olafson’s attempts to convert the Jumalis of Kymia and Viipuri came to nothing as his priests were shunned by the pagans. After introducing his heir, Prince Dalmar, and his other son, Prince Emmerik, to the Svear court, Wulf extended his hospitality to the Princess Sanfrida; recently arrived from Kirkval. His remaining years were spent ruling his kingdom but was sadden by the loss of his wife, Erna, in childbirth. Prince Ymir had travelled to Helsingfors in Turku where he gained their full support before his untimely death in 1385. Despite their best efforts, Lokke and Valdemar could gain little support from the stubborn Turku.

The death of Queen Anastasia in 1383 could have spelled another disaster for the embattled Rus but the nobility was happy for Prince Fedor to act as Regent for the young Prince Peter until he would come of age. The House of Kiev was especially pleased as their status within the Rus lands was greatly improved. |

With the gold sent from the Rus, Romanus was able to increase the imperial fleet as well as send supplies to the settlers in Morea. To further increase the trading capacity of Constantinople, the port of Aikadiopolis was built on the Aegean Sea. This enabled the Byzantines to trade with the Akramids, France and the St Denis Order in Spain. The trade routes to Salerno and Egypt were shortened as a result. Romanos himself travelled to Malta to gain an audience with the Knights and to improve the influence in the Order for the Byzantine cause. He had sent some missionaries to Rhodes to win back the island from the Moslems and restore Christianity there. Prince Michael was to rule in his stead from Constantinople. The young prince had to officiate at his mother’s funeral during the Emperor’s absence after her death in 1365. Duke Demetrious gained some influence with the Atticans after gaining a bride for Prince Michael from amongst their ruling house. The Princess Zoe journeyed to Constantinople where the pair were wed. |

Grandmaster Eric concentrated in improving the Order’s status with their hosts the Rus. Gathering the leaders of the Order together, Eric was able to vastly improve relations within the Kievan lands. The Magyars would have to wait for another time.

The Rajputi’s continued to prosper under the guidance of Rejeesh and his son Prince Suresh. In Kashmir, the city of Srinagar was to grow in size as Rejeesh poured his money into the kingdom’s provinces. His priests were to continue to convert the Moslems of Islamabad, Lahore being converted to Hinduism in the years previous. Wayra and Vanaya had some small success converting the nobility of the Punjab and Om’Chu. |

Chiang’Ning dominance spread throughout the Middle Kingdom and the prosperity brought increases to the Kingdom’s cities. The walls of Chiang’Ning and Pienching were built high a wide to prevent and assault from Ban Ao’s enemies. Leaving his son, Prince Ban Zheng to rule the Kingdom in his stead, Ban Ao travelled to Shensi to improve relations with the Western Sung. Once in the Sung lands, Ban Ao was to join Tsai Zhek in gaining tribute from the westerners. After removing the garrisons from Tangchou and Shentung, Ning Tang was to present these men to Prince Zheng before travelling south to Hupei where he was to gain a fragile alliance with the Chang’Ling. Before his death in 1385, Khau Sung was tasked with protecting the Kingdom’s coastal provinces whereas Meng Buwai patrolled the heartlands from Taiping. Prince Zheng was a fairly able ruler but was saddened by the loss of his Sung wife, Princess Wei Feiyan, during a complicated childbirth. The child was also not to survive. |
