He sent Admiral Guarnual and General Cotto to do the = job. Arriving in Ciboney they found the island undefended except for = some minor fortifications in the northern fortress. The island was quick= ly = back into the hands of the Italians. Cotto stayed behind as Guarnual had= = further orders. The Adenans had obviously done a good job of selling the = Europeans of the premise that they were being slowly subjugated by the = Kornlanders. Guarnual hard orders to clear the Lower Snake River of = blockaders. The Italians had 60 warships, with 10 being elite and the = Kornland Admiral Breelant had 35 galleons in the blockade force. After = the first days battle, in which both sides fought valiantly and took heav= y = loses, the Kornlanders knew they were outgunned. In spite of this they = returned to battle and in the second day of fighting they were wiped out = completely. Breelant was lost. Guarnual left the Lower Snake River = with 44 warships ready to complete the final part of his assignment. Guarnual was met at the shore of Kornland by King Augustin = of Kornland in person with a force of arms that numbered 20,000 men. = Guarnual thought better about trying to carry out the rest of his orders = and sailed back to Ciboney. Others of the Italian nobility, otherwise known as Cardinals, = passed out large bribes to get abbeys built all over Europe. Many were = more than happy to genuflect with one hand outstretched. King Augustin finally prevented the same navy from raiding = the eastern coast. Geez, these Italians can get around. Many Italians slipped out of Kornland and back to the islands = robbing the Kornlanders of many valuable teachers. The effect was so = great that by the end of 1503 the nation of Kornland had reverted to = civilized status and the military lost much of the advantage it used to h= old = in the new world. Although this was a set back for the Kornlanders they = were still able to institutionalize much of what the Italians brought to = them in the last twenty years. Augustin promoted his younger brother, Clement to princely = status.
