THE NORMAN KINGDOM OF SAXONIA
Henry IV, King of the Saxons and of the Normans, Count of Blois
DIPLOMACY: Poitou(f)
Disturbing news came filtering to Rouen from Rome that the Pope elected in 1469 was an imposter. Since his ordination, no Saxon cardinal had been permitted audience. The young king Henry IV was insistent that this Pope was probably an anti-Christ come to earth to ruin the Church. This news was shared among the monarchs of Europe. Something had to be done about this. An army was dispatched to Italy to assist the Ligurians to clean things up. Meanwhile king Henry went to Poitou and married a countess named Margaret. Cities: Bruges grew to 7 Gpv. Rouen is now 7 Gpv. A royal road links La Rochelle to Tours to Lyon.

THE LIGURIAN KINGDOM OF ITALY
Arturo, Rex Lagobardum
DIPLOMACY: Jamaica(hs)
After waiting some nine years, Arturo decided that the current Pope, the one elected after Pius V was killed by Saracens, was illegally elected because none of the Ligurian hand picked cardinals actually voted for him. Common cause was made with the Saxons and the Helveticans, both sent armies to Genoa. All told 301,000 soldiers gathered by the spring of 1470. Led by Crown Prince Cristo, Saxon general Xander and Helvetican field marshal Örsau, they moved to Rome. The farmsfolk and villagers wondered why such a huge army? At Rome when the intensions of the army was made known, the Saxon commander had a change of heart while 40% of the Ligurian troops deserted. Xander then attacked the Ligurian-Helvetican with his force of 12,500 elite infantry, 25,000 regular infantry, 37,500 inexpericned grounders and 250 field guns. The Ligurian heir led now 53,000 cavalry, 21,500 infantry, 7500 engineers, 120 cannons and 15,000 condottieri. The Helveticans were 15,000 knights and 15,000 skirmishers.
With guns blaring, thundering, the hated Pope Paul II came to the battle and lent 1100 catapults and ballista to Xander. The summer battle stalemated. The autumn battle, another draw. The pro-Papal troops were so decimated that they withdrew to within Rome's 60 foot walls. "There's nothing that stands between us and Rome, " shouted Cristo to his surviving army: 12,000 cavalry, 10,000 mercenaries, 120 guns and 30.000 Helveti, "The villian papacy is doomed!" But the siege didn't fare well. The wall stood firm and there was less men to fight - and Cristo took a severe hit ot his right shoulder and arm. The Ligurian and Helvetican army withdrew to Tuscany to consider thier options. A popular uprisng disturbed all cities in the Kingdom. The people resented Arturo's assault against a well-loved Pope. They wondered why the Papacy is being attacked when the real enemy are the Moors. Campania, Corsica and Provence rebelled. On the high seas, Giovanni Szarra and his 67 warships along with 100 Abydos galleys, did succeed in destroying or capturing all of Rome's fishing fleets.
In the New World were problems too. Raphael Tilita took a disliking for these uncouth Indians. He left 2000 cavalry at Hait but these were massacred. So incensed was he that he picked up 8000 infantry that had been left on Ciboney and added to his 5000 infantry, 3000 cavalry and 50 cannon left on ship. He attacked the Haitians but could not succeed in a regional genocide. He withdrew to the navy after sustaining heavy losses. To save trouble he and his fellow conquerors returned to Ciboney and founded Porto Edoaro.

Bad kings in Europe almost brought him down but some leaders refused to go along. Xander's army now protected Rome which expanded to 8 Gpv - and - tore down the 60 foot walls that saved it. Cathedrals were built in Latium, Lombardy, Romagna, Savoy and Verona. Monasteries were set in Anglia and Sussex. The government was purged of many foreign influenes, among the Arab and Moorish infiltrators was a heavy Ligurian taint.
