LORDS OF THE EARTH | |
CAMPAIGN IV | |
Turn #58 | Industrial Stage Zero |
1386-1390 Anno Domini | The Middle Ages |
What's up?: Turn 59 now - get the new rulebooks! Here's an interesting thought. It has come to my attention that Primates (and Merchant Houses) could possibly hold both region/cities AND their special statuses. This would show up on their stat sheets as a duplicate entry for the region/city. Now, why is this a problem? Well, to most people it would seem like it's unfair in some way and I understand that, but then again there are the historical aspects to consider, say the Papal states owned property AND had churches, abbeys, etc. So, that means that I will be using the MAXTAX features of Lords in the near future. At first it may not even effect you, but I will be ratcheted it down - at 2.0 people with primate statuses in their homelands will begin to feel the pinch. As I ratchet it down to 1.25 it'll become more apparent. I think it'll take about 10 turns for me to complete the process, it won't happen next turn! OPEN POSITIONS: If you're dropping, let me know ASAP. There will be a lottery November 18th if you are interested in any of the open positions. 4 YEAR TURNS: Lords 4 will switch to 4 year turns after turn 60 (1400 AD). LORDS 4 UNIT CONVERSION

The Tumet Horde
Khan Subutei
Diplomacy: Dalai Nor(A) Ch'in(absorbed) Shangtu(absorbed)
Subutei headed north to pick up more allies, finding no nomads in Wudah, Kutai, and Chitin. Finally smashing into Shangtu with close to sixty thousand men.
The Kingdom of Bei Song
Timur, Emperor of the Bei Song, Explorer of the Northern Lands
Diplomacy: None
The ravages of the plague having reduced the ability of the current court to effectively administer the far-flung reaches of the Bei Song realm, Timur released the leaders of Parhae, Mantap, Mudan, and Tumin from all obligation, withdrawing all members of the Bei Song court from their territories. He stated "It is our earnest desire that when order has been restored under the heavens, we will once again be able to welcome these lands into our protection. Tremble and Obey!"
The Empire of Nippon
Takedasan, Shogun of Nippon
Diplomacy: None
It was a sad turn of events for the Shogunate as both of Takedasan's twin sons died within a year of each other in 1388 and 1389. Their grandfather Shogun Takeda died at that time as well. Takeda Yabu remained loyal, as did the Hokkaido ally. Cheju city, Kwanto and Edo, Saga and Kumamoto, and Kagoshima all revolted.
The Jung-Mo Empire
Jung-Mo, Emperor of Korea, Protector of Northern China
Diplomacy: No effect
Pienching, Ta'ting, and Taiyuan were expanded. Dae-Suk, second son of the heir to the Kin Dynasty Chen Khang fell out of a fishing boat in 1389. His father jumped in to save him, but both drowned. Later that year, Chen's son Wei-Hsin took his place as the new Heir. Kip continued his road and bridge constructions in Anshan and over the Huang Ho.
Troubles started in the Empire when Jung-Mo took most of the army of close to twenty thousand men and moved on Yen, forcing tribute easily and then cake walking in Yen-Ching. He then moved on to Bandao, nearly losing to the tactical superiority of the wilderness chieftain. Lastly he moved on to Anshan. Here crossing over the Changbai Shan, Jung-Mo was met by the inhabitants and roughly thrown back. Kyo-Hah fled the battle and was last seen crossing the Bo Hai on his way to Qingdao. It was at this point that Jung-Mo decided to take matters into his own hands.
Jung-Mo Rebellion
Hearing that his long-time friend Chen Khang had died, Jung-Mo considered his fate in the Empire. With more than double the amount of armies at his disposal and knowing the capabilities, or as he figured incapabilities of Kip, Jung-Mo marched on the capital, sweeping through Kin lands gaining the allegiance of the various land owners along the way. He crossed the Huang Ho into Shangtung in March of 1389. Kip's army revolted under him, delivering his body to Jung-Mo in the following of the riot. Wei-Hsin was jailed so as not to be any trouble.
In the aftermath, Hopei revolted. Possibly this wasn't the best time for internal strife, but in the face of uncertain futures nations and people do odd things. If all that weren't enough, a severe drought hit the empire late in 1390, testing Jung-Mo's new administration.
The Chin Chinese Empire
Tri Liang, Emperor of the Middle Kingdom, Master of the World
Diplomacy: None
Tri Liang built up several thousand units of arms, preparing to do battle from the Kin, those pesky northerners. He watched in glee as the reports of Kip's demise and subsequent rebellions in his neighbors lands came to him.
Chu Jin was busted out of Tai'Li on the eve of the attack on Nan Chao. Tri sent Li Chou and Chang Kow to teach them a lesson. Tai'Li was taken without a fight, due to it's lack of walls and few defenders.
Shih Huang turned out to be a terrible administrator. Ganzhou, Huang and Wuzhou, Kienchou and Xian all revolted, while Lingsi, Ordos, and Chang'de all dropped to claimed status.
The Celestial Realm of Buddha
Hung Feng-Chan, The Robed Wise Man
Consecration: None
Hung Feng-Chan contemplated his navel.

The Khemer Empire of Kambuja
Tran Cau, Emperor of the Khemers, Cloak of the Buddha, Mask of Hidden Glory, Master of the Lotus Throne
Diplomacy: Nam Pung(F!) Mison(f) Johor(f)
Tran beefed up security in the north west and expanded Angkor Wat a bit more. Then he set his diplomats on fire and let them go, success was only a formality.
The Khemer Empire of Burma
Dinth Shan the True, Emperor of the Khemers
Diplomacy: Prome(t)
Dinth put walls on most of his cities and expanded Chittagong. He attempted to set up proper taxes on head count in the nation, but was unsuccessful.
The Island Kingdom of Java
Adrissa III, King of Java, Master of the Spice Isles
Diplomacy: Sabah(t) Sarawak(t)
Without the assistance of anyone, the Javans moved closer to their Hindu gods, you'd think this would make converting the Sunda heathens all that easier. Adrissa expanded most of the cities in the realm and increased the quality of life for many citizens. This would have made governing them easier if it weren't for other limitations. This gave Suharto, heir to the throne, time to spend time with girls on the beaches.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Indian Ocean Basin
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Chola Mandalam Empire
Abhata, Chola Emperor of Mandalam, the Left hand of Vishnu
Diplomacy: Kakatiya(t) Pawar(t)
Another 22 cities expanded, again half of them with walls, with a new one, Rajkot, built in the Andaman Islands. Abhata took another bride into his harem who produced no less than four children for the Emperor including an heir in 1387. The government was expanded as well.
Matara on Sri Lanka was given up for the Javans, unfortunately there were no Javans there to give it to. This was especially disturbing due to the fact that Radhakrishna sailed all the way to Singapore to seal the deal. He died on the Javan island as it was revolting from Java. All of the shipping that was supposed to be placed in Singapore bustled in the Cholan ports, unused. Kakatiya probably would have had closer ties to the Empire if it weren't for the lead diplomat Ahura dieing in 1388.
The Hindu Primacy
Niraj Pdesh, Blessed by the One's whom follow the path
Consecration: Paghan(ch) Mandalay(ch) Chittagong(ch) Palas(mn) Maghada(mn) Jaunpur(ab) Rajput(mn) Banavasi(ch) Surat(ch) Mulhan(ch)

Samir ar Rhani took the Scythian throne, but many territories didn't acknowledge his rule, including Bauluch and Baulistan, Dasht'e Lute, Firoz Kôhi and Mashad, Ghazni, Registan, Shadad, Siahan, and Sistan. Tabaristan, one of the areas cut off from Samir, needed to be pacified by Prince Razuli. With all contact with Edrosia cut off by the rebellions, trade goods couldn't be distributed to anyone, save the Sirinigar.
The Emirate of Turkman
Omar, Shah of Bukhara, Emir of Merv

Osmanli expanded several beautifying projects in the northern provinces. Then he died in 1387. His son Omar took the throne, having just produced an heir of his own. Abu-Bakar died in 1390, which is a good thing, since he would have been beheaded after his results in Kush.
The Safavid Empire of Basra
Nuh'a-Din ibn Nur, Shah of Baghdad, Spokesman of God, Chosen of Allah, Guide of the Faithful, Most Learned of the Holy
Diplomacy: Media(AW)
Nuh'a-Din sired 3 boys in succession in 1386. Several cities were expanded including agricultural improvements in the surrounding fields. The royal road from the capital to the coast was completed. An unnamed leader completely biffed the negotiations with Media, barely escaping with his life.
The Madragian Emirate of Aleppo
Salud al-Hajj Sadadi the Fresh, Emir of Aleppo, Servant of Allah, Guardian of the Western March
Diplomacy: Cyprus(t) Isauria(H)
Salud al-Hajj once again expanded Antioch and produced an heir from the union of his Cyprian wife.
The Holy Imam of All Islam
Imam Khemeni, the Highest Follower of Al'lah
Consecration: Tabriz(HC) Shirvan(CA) Baghdad(CA)
Work crews of priests and monks showed up in Jordan, preparing to build a royal road into Petra. Some Mamluke cavalry stopped them from doing more than survey the area, pointing out that they'd better show some kind of permit from Uzayr or they'd have to pack it in. They almost turned around to head back into their cathedral when another horseman came up, informing the troops that they indeed did have permission from Uzayr, whew!
Up north in Azerbajian black robed priests scoured the streets of Tabriz shutting down any and all heretical practices. Several hundred people were imprisoned for their sinful ways. No quarter was given by the hired hashashin. An explanation was found in the Imam's proclamation in Tabaristan.
"My beloved followers, faithful of the One True God, I have received a great and wondrous vision from Allah the Compassionate and Merciful. The Prophet came to me as I lay resting in my chamber and revealed to me that the time had come to leave to the past the temporary shelter of Alamut, which was the cradle of our youth, and in recent times, our refuge in a time of need from the ravages of the infidel horde of the Karayit who brought devastation to our lost holy mosque of Baghdad. In this vision, by the grace of Allah the Compassionate and Merciful, a New Great Holy City was revealed to me in the mountain vail of Azerbaijan. It is the will of Allah himself that we remove ourselves for the great city of Tabriz, and build there a great mosque to honor the One True God and His Prophet!"
The Imam Khemeni then blessed the new Holy city of Tabriz with the assistance of Mullah Has'Anim and Khataan. Mullah Hazim had the task of moving the government operations from Alamut to Tabriz. Mullah Omar died at the end of 1390 after performing duties as legate in El'Qahira, keeping the western mosques in communications with with the Imam at all times.

The Sultanate of Sheba
Amr, Sultan of Sheba, Patriarch of Islam
Diplomacy: Scebeli(t) Ras Hafun(t)
The Sultan attempted to increase the piety of the nobility, but only received their scorns, thus reducing his taxing ability due to the tithe on his nation from the Imam.
The Coptic Kingdom of Aksum
Tobin VI, King of Aksum, Negus Negesti, Lord of the Coptic Wilderness, Lion of Judah
Diplomacy: Charuls(ea) Buganda(a)
Tobin VI found that his wife had died during a premature childbirth and subsequent bleeding. It was at this point that he had his Aunt Eri marry General Angcur, making him heir to the Lion throne. He began to have children, twin girls in 1386, another girl in 1387, then Eri died in 1388. Tobin's wishes were for Lord Angcur to marry Eri's twin sister Ona. Ona helped Lord Angcur through his grief and they had a child together as well, yet another daughter for Angcur.
In other matters, Tobin increased the irrigation projects in Adowa, Danakil, and Suakin. In Walaga, the city of Beigi was the focus of a Christian religious frenzy. People claimed to see the Ark of the Covenant, the Christ child dancing in front of them at odd times, apparitions, other sightings and holy visions. Word of this spread quickly throughout the Kingdom and pilgrims began to flock in droves, making Beigi a Holy City to Christians everywhere.

Arslan sent messengers ahead to discuss an alliance with Wladeslaw and they returned with a most regrettable response that the small agrarian Kingdom would not ally itself if a barbarian horde. So it was in the autumn of 1387 that Arslan attacked. It was really no contest as Wladeslaw had only a little more than a thousand men and no walls in Warsaw. The king od Poland escaped to Silesia ahead of the advancing horde who had their mind set next upon the Kingdom of the Avars.
Murom vs Avars 1389
Arslan's messengers to the Avars were returned in small pieces, which really pissed him off. He hit Hungary in 1389 and was dismayed to find Radu and his cavalry in the tens of thousands. He barely made it back to Bochnia alive and it was there that he decided to make his home.
