Lords Three Turn 01

1000 -1005 A.D.

Asia | Western Europe | Eastern Europe | Indonesia/India | Middle East/North Africa | West Africa | East Africa | Americas

The Total Bastards

Notes for Turn 1:

Please make sure you clearly state all troops transfers.

You can't have feudal allies off doing things while you're trying diplomacy on their region. the feudal allies must be present.

I am going to assume that if the king is ruling, he's makin' whoopee. The same goes for administer.

I will not be using the inexperienced troop types from this point on. If you have some, they will be converted to light free of charge.

Mercenaries will be available after turn 2.

I can and will accept orders submitted from the Java Orders Applet, which can be found here.

That being said, on to the action!

Asia

Michinaga Japan

Michinaga

Diplomacy:

Michinaga decided it was high time to expand his realm. He sent colonists to the Isle of Okinawa, where they quickly started paving the way for more settlers. A national census was ordered, and completed after 4 years of labor. Some open air fish markets were created, bolstering the economy.

The Kingdom of Hsi-Hsia

Li Chi-ch'ien

Diplomacy:

Hsi-Hsia sent some Feudally Allied raiders into Sung China as part of a coordinated attack with the Liao Kingdom, but they were never heard from again. They also invested heavily into their government sector, but this has yet to bear fruit.

See the Sung War.

The Empire of the Sung

(Buddhist Civilized Open Empire)

Cheng-tsung

Diplomacy:

Diplomatic efforts in Szechwan were rewarded with a new alliance. Diplomatic efforts elsewhere were less than stellar, however.

A plague of locusts hit the eastern portion of the Sung Empire, bringing with them a plague of soldiers from the Liao Kingdom.

See the Sung War.

The Liao Kingdom

Ch'eng-t'ien

Diplomacy:

Public works were ordered to be built in Bao Ding in preparation for the coming victory celebration. An Announcement was made concerning Su'Lin-tsung (a new prince just come of age) beginning his administration duties. Then it was time to go invade their neighbor!

The War in Sung China

Infantry (200 men = 1 point)
Cavalry (200 men and 200 horse = 1 point)
Siege Engineers (200 men = 1 point)
Warships (2 ships = 1 point)
Transports (2 ships = 1 point)

Shan'si:

The engagement started in here, when the Liao Kingdom's army and it's Queen (Ch'eng-t'ien) crossed the border with 200,000 cavalry, about 6,500 mixed infantry and 1,000 siege engineers.

They were met on the field by 50,000 Sung mixed infantry and nearly 14,000 mixed cavalry units led by the heir to the empire, Jen Tsung. With numerous field fortifications to aid them in the defense, they came prepared for a fight to defend their homeland.

An overly eager (and now deceased) feudal ally from the Liao kingdom rushed ahead to meet the enemy, and the fate of the first round of the war was sealed. The two armies clashed head on, but the Sung Empire had superior defenses, and many well coordinated counter-attacks. The Liao Kingdom had to withdraw from the field, suffering losses of close to 8,000 infantry, over 3,000 cavalry, and all their precious siege engineers.

The Sung suffered losses of 1,200 light infantry and all of their field fortifications. The heir then rushed off to defend Shensi from the raiding Hsi-Hsia..

Shensi:

The Hsi-Hsia raiding party was out to pillage and plunder. They didn't expect to run head-on into a very large army.

This was a one-sided battle from the beginning. An already enraged heir, his allies and a large reactionary force absolutely trampled the small sized force of Hsi raiders.

All told, the Hsi lost everything: 3,000 cavalry, 2,200 mixed infantry units, and two feudally allied leaders.

The Sung saw the destruction of a mere field fortification.

Jen Tsung then rushes to meet the next threat to his future throne..

Kansu:

Another lopsided battle in the Sung's favor here. The Kingdom of Hsi-Hsia loses 4,00 infantry, almost 1,00 cavalry, and 1,000 siege engineers. The Sung lose some field fortifications. The Hsi are forced to withdraw from the field and rethink their strategy.

If the plan was to draw the main Sung army away from the heartland of the empire while suffering devastating losses, it certainly worked.

Now the heir has to trek almost all the way across his empire to meet yet another threat..

Shengtung:

Leaderless, the region is easily conquered by the Liao Kingdom. The Liao army then moves on to Tsianan..

Tsianan:

Jen Tsung of the Sung finally catches up to the invaders, but he and his troops are just too exhausted to continue the fighting. The Sung do inflict some significant damage before they withdraw from the fighting, however.

Liao loses somewhere near 9,000 cavalry: most of those losses were due to the Liao leadership battering them against the multiple field forts in the region.

Western Europe

Caliphate of Cordoba

Al'Mansur

Diplomacy:

Ha, who needs diplomacy!

Al'Mansur ordered a census to be conducted, funneled money into public works and various other investments, opened trade with many nations, and then he waited for the Ferenghi all around him to make a move.. he didn't have long to wait.

See the Iberian War

Christian Spain

Henry

Diplomacy:

Yeah, I'll show them diplomacy..

King Henry had plans. Devious, clever plans. With a grin, he gave the order to move out and get into position.

 The Iberian War

Portugal:

Two of Christian Spain's feudal lords, Bermudo of Galacia and Sancho of Navarre, are ordered to raid into Portugal with a force of all cavalry. They encounter a lord there ready for just such an event. After a fairly evenly matched battle, the lord of Portugal is defeated and he retreats to Estremadura. The Feudal lords from Spain then commence to the raiding fun. After splitting the fruits of their labor with the men, they then move on to Estremadura..

The Estremadura:

Bermudo and Sancho we not prepared for the combined force waiting for them in the Estremadura. The quickly ordered a forced march through Talavera, New Castile, and finally into Old Castile. This is where the trap would be sprung.

Al'Mansur gives chase, doggedly pursuing the invaders, and very eager to deliver punishment for the raids into his lands.

Old Castile:

Henry had planned long and hard for this fight, over many days and with many allied leaders from within his realm and from without (France). If all went according to his plan, he would be the sole ruler of Spain. With the arrival of Bermudo and Sancho, proclaiming that the Cordoban army was hot on their heels, Henry digs in a prepares his 11,000 cavalry and 9,000 some-odd infantry for the first assault.

The Ummayid army arrives in Old Castile with over 30,000 cavalry, and roughly 15,000 infantry. Unfortunately, his intelligence reports failed to inform him of the actual size of the Christian force waiting for him there.

The two forces clash, but Henry has set up his defenses very wisely. The Cordoban force loses 4,000 cavalry and nearly 3,000 mixed infantry units in extremely vigorous combat. The Christian forces only lose about 2,000 cavalry and a smattering of other troops here and there.

Al'Mansur was not prepared to initiate a full fledged war just yet, so he moved his army back into New Castile to regroup.

Duchy of Normandy

Robert

Diplomacy:

Of a sort.. In return for regions given over by France, Duke Robert declares his Duchy a faithful vassal of France and swear his allegiance to them.

Other than that, the Duchy made some small investments in government and the school system. They did, however, see a marked increase in their government structures.

Duchy of Venice

Doge Pietro II Orseolo

Diplomacy:

Verona gained from the Holy Roman Empire and Dalmatia gained from the Byzantine Empire.

The people of Verona are so overjoyed with the addition of Verona to the Duchy that they offer to build the Doge an expansive estate in the country. (Verona is HM to Venice now) The Doge also ordered a census conducted, and had lots of babies. So many babies, he had to hire extra staff to take care of them all.

Jarldom of Denmark

Svien Forkbeard

Diplomacy:

Svien conducted diplomacy in the region of Denmark, distracting the feudal lord there from orders previously given by the king himself! The lord of Denmark liked the way this brash king went about his clever business, and decided to swear his allegiance .Norway was also brought closer to the crown.

The king also ordered (without contradiction) some troops into Pomern, and quickly pacified the region. Religious conversion was successful in Norway, converting the pagans to the one true faith.

Jarldom of Norway

Olaf Tryggvason

Diplomacy:

King Olaf made some major investments into the government sector and some improvements around the capitol. He also disbanded a massive amount of seafaring vessels. And lastly, he officially renamed the region of Trondheim to Heimat. The people were confused, but accepting.

Jarldom of Sweden

Olaf Skotkonung

Diplomacy:

King Olaf sent colonists to Norbotten and diplomats to Turku. Both of these ventures were met with success.

Fairly quiet in the frozen north. Sometimes it seems like all there is is sex and making more mouths to feed. Ah well, could be worse.

Kingdom of England

Ethelred

Diplomacy:

Diplomatic efforts allowed the kingdom to lay tenuous claim to Dyffed and Munster, but were resoundingly rejected by the populace in Gwynned.

King Ethelred ordered some improvements to be made around London, greatly clearing the air, so to speak.

Kingdom of France

Robert the Pious

Diplomacy:

The king conducted diplomacy personally in Maine, resulting in a positive effect. He sent others to Anjou and Nivernais, and they also were well received.

Robert the Pious sent a decent sized force to guard the lands of Catalonia while Henry was out taunting the Muslims of Iberia.

See the Iberian War

The Holy Roman Empire

Otto III

Diplomacy:

Otto oversaw the friendly transfer of Verona to the Duchy of Venice. Diplomats were also sent to Bavaria and Franconia, and were met with varying degrees of success.

A census was conducted, and the revenue garnered from that allowed for some improvements to be made in the capitol.

The Kingdom of Scotland

Malcolm II

Diplomacy:

Diplomatic efforts were met with limited Success in Lancashire. Could have been worse..

The port city of Aberdeen was built in Strathclyde, and was declared ready for sea trade with other nations. A census was completed, which will result in much more tax income for the fledgling kingdom.

The Roman Catholic Papacy

Sylvester II

Diplomacy:

The Papacy established many sites throughout his vast domain. Most of his efforts to spread the holy word were met with success.

Pope Sylvester exacted a modest tithe on the majority of the that nations that fall under his grace. Bishopric support was also sent out to nations in need of it.

Some missionary work was conducted in Scandinavia, and was met with receptive ears.

Eastern Europe

Kievian Rus

Vladimir

Diplomacy:

The Byzantine Empire granted the Rus full control over the crimea, with the exception of the city there. Kirov was colonized to take full advantage of the bustling fur trade in that region. Diplomacy undertaken in Livonia was met with success.

Conversion to the Eastern Orthodox faith was seriously considered, but not undertaken with out the help of the church. Some field fortifications were constructed in the eastern part of the realm, and public works bolstered the national economy.

Kingdom of Poland

Boleslaw I

Diplomacy:

Danzig was brought under the yoke of the Polish tyrant Boleslaw.

The region of Little Poland saw it's cultivation project completed, which would allow for much more agriculture production. More cake for the king! Let them eat husks .. The city of Warszawa was constructed in Poland, and is rumored to be the playground of Boleslaw. A census was also conducted, to fill the already overflowing royal coffers.

Magyarskorzag

Stephan

Diplomacy:

Efforts to sway the populace of Wallachia and Moldavia were met with some degree of success.

Cultivation efforts in Bakony and Alfold were completed, raising the overall standard of living in the land of the Magyars. A census was also conducted to help pay the troops and palace scribes.

The Byzantine Empire

Basil II

Diplomacy:

Bosnia was cut loose from the empire. Dalmatia and the Crimea were transferred from Byzantine authority to help lessen the burdens of government.

Major investments of time and money were undertaken in many aspects of the empire, but only a few have made any real progress as of yet. Port cities were built in Thessaly, Calabria and Morea. They are named Larissa, Rhegio and Philadelphia, respectively.

The Eastern Orthodox Church

Sergius II

Diplomacy:

Many new churches and abbeys were constructed, but not all efforts were met with success. A bishop was wounded terribly on one of these missions of peace. It is said he will recover fully.

A minor tithe was placed on the Byzantine Empire and some missionary work has some success in Kiev. The Church's influence in the day to day affairs of the Byzantine Empire increased greatly.

Indonesia & India

Khemer Empire

Jayavarman V

Diplomacy:

Many whores and beer (or was it whores with beer.. either way) were sent to the royalty of Annam in an effort to join the two kingdoms. Suitably drunk and satisfied, the King of Annam agreed to the proposition (wink wink) wholeheartedly.

Some investments were made into the government sector and a census was conducted. A modest amount of public works projects were started and completed, bringing more income into the treasury.

Srivijayan Empire

Chulamanivarnam

Diplomacy:

Pajajaran was brought under the national sphere of control

A census was conducted, as well as sailing around in clear blue waters, drinking fermented coconut milk Some trade got established in the off peak drinking hours.

The Spice Islands

Spice Masta Ted (no, he didn't name him Ted - but he didn't name him anything, so ..)

Diplomacy:

Ted awoke from a long night of partying with the Srivi.. whatever, and decided Timor would make an excellent addition to his little island kingdom. After much "discussion" over "drinks" the lords of Timor decided to join the "kingdom".

A fishing fleet was rounded up and sent out to do the dirty work of feeding the kingdom. A census was conducted, but don't ask them how it ever got done.

The Seljuk Turks

Arsen Ilig Nasr, total bastard

Diplomacy:

Ahaha?

The Seljuks looted and sacked everything they could on the way to the oh so fertile (and unsuspecting, apparently) fields of northern India. Tarain and Uttar Pradesh cease to exist as nations due solely to the unrepentant acts of brutality committed by Arsen and his brother, Kiliq. Also known as little bastard.

Arsen Ilig Nasr personally sacks Jend, raids Singanakh, sacks Bukhara, loots Bokhara, and loots Tarain. Tarian then crumbles into history (as they can't sustain their populace or government).

Kiliq Ilig Nasr, the little bastard, sacks Tashkent, loots Otarsh, sacks Samarkhand, and loots Kara-Khitai. He then joins back up with Arsen at tarain for continued mischief.

Taliq, a friend of the brothers since childhood goes about the business of sacking Urgench, looting Khwarzim, Turkmen, and Bactria. Then he raids Transoxania for gold and food. If that wasn't enough, he raids Chitor and begins a passive siege on the city of Dehli. the population of Dehli quickly concedes the city after watching the Turks wipe 3,000 infantry and 6,000 cavalry from the field of combat..

The brothers bastard attack to pacify Uttar Pradesh after looting Tarain. With somewhere around 80,000 horsemen against the meager 3,500 cavalry units and 11,000 infantry units of Uttar Pradesh, the brothers quickly decimate the army facing them. The King and heir of Uttar pradesh are killed in the fierce fighting, and the royal family is later hunted down and "assimilated" into the tribe. With the royal family dead or as good as, Uttar pradesh as a coherent nation ceases to be. The Turks lost a whopping 1,000 or so horsemen in the "fight". Never satisfied, the brothers set their sites on Rajput ..

See the War in India

Kingdom of Chola

Rajaraja I

Diplomacy:

Seylan is granted it's independence, and Kalinga was welcomed into the kingdom's dominion.

The port city of Vizagapatam is built in region of Vengi. A slave raid is conducted in Kosala, then the same (although more hardened) troops are taken out for maneuvers. Even after all that, the same company of men is paraded in front of the Raja, much to his personal pleasure.

Through religious fervor and anal retentive minds, a Hindu religious authority is established in Pandya.

Moksha Par Brahm

Newly formed PRA Open for a player!

Starts in Pandya (Chola).

Rajputate of Palas

Srijaira

Diplomacy:

Palas was put on full alert in case of an attack against it's neighbor, Maghada. It wasn't long before they heard word of Benares moving in to take Maghada out of the picture. The heir, Carpimisutra, gathered up the troops and moved out to defend his neighbor.

See the war in India

The Rajputate of Benares

Rajput Sanjay

Diplomacy:

Sanjay orders a census conducted. He then personally oversees the construction of the port city Varanasi in Juanpor.

Now that the busy work was out of the way, it was time to invade Maghada.

The Rajputate of Gujerat

Raj Jivin Kanak

Diplomacy:

Made some minor investments and coolly watched the seljuk turks move into the neighborhood.

The war in India

The Rajputate of Benares set out towards Maghada with almost 10,000 mixed infantry, a smattering of siege engineers, and 7,000 mixed cavalry units led by Lieutenant Bhishma. Standing before them were the combined armies of Maghada and Palas. These two allied armies consisted of just over 5,000 cavalry, about 11,000 infantry, and multiple field fortifications.

The three armies met at the break of dawn on the following day. They fought long and hard all day, with no clear winner determined. Benares lost 400 siege engineers and just under 3,000 infantry. The allied armies of Maghada and Palas lost most of their field fortifications and 1,600 infantry. With no victor decided, the armies retired from the field until the next day.

The following day of combat was proving to be much more favorable for Benares, until the messenger from the Capitol arrived with terrible news of smelly bastards raping everything in sight and generally acting like, well, bastards. Lieutenant Bhishma quickly abandoned his fight against Palas and Maghada, suffering casualties of 200 siege engineers, 800 heavy infantry, and roughly 2,000 heavy cavalry.

Upon arriving in Rajput, the army of Benares was confronted with thousands upon thousands of horsemen. They were everywhere. And they smelled, to top it all off. Casting his fear aside, and engaging his sense of loyalty to country and Raj, Lieutenant Bhishma attacked the funny talking dirt balls on horseback..

And promptly loses over 3,000 infantry and 4,000 cavalry. Thinking better of the situation, he flees to the royal palace, collects the royal family and makes haste for Jihjhoti.

Middle East & North Africa

The Fatimid Caliphate

Al-Hakim

Diplomacy:

If that's what you call total enslavement, then sure ..

Al-Hakim ordered the regions of Syria, Tunisia and Sicily to be totally enslaved. After the busy work was taken care of, Al had a port city named Suez built in Mansura, on the Red Sea. A Major amount of public works projects were completed in the Caliphate. Those operations combined with the newly garnered slave labor should put the caliphate back on track, financially.

The Ghaznavid Empire

Mahmud

Diplomacy:

Well, not really "diplomacy". Mahmud did order "clean up" after the Seljuk turks left the neighborhood.

The region of Bactria and Kara-Khitai are easily pacified after the departure of the Turks. (Like the populace is going to put up much of a fight) A more suitable homeland is found an moved in to. The mountains just weren't cutting it for Mahmud. The altitude gave him frequent nosebleeds, ruining his dandy threads. And this is quality silk here..feel that. See? Quality.

The Buhwayid Caliphate

Baha al-Dowlah

Diplomacy:

The region of Carhae decides to finally give in and fully join the Caliphate.

Baha al Dowlah orders massive troops demobilization in order to clean up his accounting books. In addition to the demobilization, many regions saw their status in the Caliphate fall dramatically as many tax collectors left for greener pastures. A Census was conducted as well, which should definitely help with the Buhwayid's income woes.

West Africa

Kingdom of Songhai

Kumal the magnificent

Diplomacy:

Who needs it?

The then heir Kumal, has a vision of a united west Africa. He talks his father into giving him the majority of the army to begin his trek down the road of destiny. The Hausa States are utterly decimated as Kumal rolls through, bringing his version of enlightenment. This includes executing anyone not pledging loyalty to Songhai. In the short battle for control, Hausa loses 2,000 cavalry and 4,000 infantry. By comparison, Kumal loses 200 footmen. All the other former Hausa regions quickly fall in line, and start dancing the dance of submission.

Kumal is only slightly saddened to hear of the passing of his father, the king. Long live the king!

The Kingdom of Kanem watches Songhai warily from the east..

The Kingdom of Akan

Tooco

Diplomacy:

Royal marriages to beauties in Gagnoa and Yoruba please the king and his heir greatly.

Local merchants spontaneously build a royal road from the newly constructed capitol city of Dabou and the region of Togo. Public works are built to celebrate their good fortune. Tooco listens for any word about his neighbor to the north, but nothing comes his way.

East Africa

Emirate of Zeila

Al'Amas

Diplomacy:

The regions of Berbera and Ras Hafun pledged some sort of fealty to the crown of Zeila

The port city of Loyada was built in the region of Djibuti. Diplomats, smelly juice and crunchy coffee beans were received from Zagwe. Oh, they know how to charm a nation, yes indeed.

Kingdom of Zagwe

Mera the Insistent

Diplomacy:

Economic ties were strengthen in Axum and Alwa - overtures sent to Zeila were met with raised eyebrows. And possibly skirts. We weren't there, now were we?

Mera the Insistent sent missionaries to Shoa to preach the tenets of the Coptic faith. Some public works were built, and many diplomats, coffee beans and decanters of what appeared to be some kind of fermented juice were sent to the royal family of Zeila. The two nations have grown closer together through various marriages between the two royal families.

The Emirate of Sheba

King of Sheba

Diplomacy:

The King in Sheba built the port city of Dhamar and threw some gold at public works. The region of Aden was also cultivated.

The Americas

The Aztlan

Red Feather

Diplomacy:

Diplomatic actions in Wenro bear no fruit, but the city of Cresap responds differently to Red Feather's overtures. Could be the royal marriage to the heir.

The region of Cherokee is colonized and public works are built in Erie. Many defenses are erected in the kingdom, and multiple trade routes are started.

The Michigamea

Michgamea

Diplomacy:

Cleverly, cultivation projects were completed at the same time that Michgamea diplomats were wooing two regions. Both local tribes looked upon this act favorably, and responded in kind.

Many children were sired to king Michgamea. Almost as many children as new trading partners.

The Yamasee Nation

Rollo

Diplomacy:

Yuchi pledged to be allied in good times and bad. The region of Chatot was fully incorporated into the nation via royal wedding.

Rollo ordered Creek to be cultivated, and it was so. Some foot units are disbanded to clear the way for investments for the future. Additionally, a census was undertaken and completed.

The Anasazi

Ahilaya

Diplomacy:

All feudally allied leaders are given the heave-ho into the stew pot. Many other regions only saw a reduction in status, thankfully. Tepehuan is brought into the national boundaries by totally friendly means.

Ahilaya saw an increase in the nations ability to govern more territory. Which was a good thing

Troops are given to Gaagi, the third in command. He then promptly marches off to Serrano, routes the local defenders, and pacify's the region. After that, it was time for dinner..

The Region of Yokuts was attacked, subdued, looted, enslaved and eventually snacked on by the spider worshipping devils from the east.

Beloved Huari

King Pikillaqta

Diplomacy:

The region of Chimu agreed to join the expanding Hurai nation. Who wouldn't, with all their good fortune?

King Pikillaqta ordered two grand port cities built on the coasts of Moche and Chavin. they are named Che and Marampa, respectively. When the king wasn't bust making babies, he ordered a road fit for royalty built in between is beautiful new cities. Additionally, easily accessible gold was discovered in the region of Ataura.

The Toltec Empire

Huemac

Diplomacy:

King Huemac reduced his hold over many regions, and had some serious setbacks with regions he was trying to incorporate into his far flung empire.

The Sun King ordered a truly massive amount of grand public works constructed in the region of Otomi. After that being accomplished, it was time for a good ol' slave round up! The region of Quiche was totally enslaved, but not without a fight. The Toltec Empire lost 400 infantry or so.
